Read about Nidhi's experience teaching at Pass Teachers over the last 6 months.
Why did you choose to become an online teacher?
My dream since I can remember has always been to become a teacher. I just love teaching. In an NGO, I assisted many kids with their academics. This encounter inspired me to learn more about how to support kids' mental and academic development. That is why I decided to study psychology at university. I began applying for teaching-related positions as my third year was coming to a close. It didn't matter to me whether I was in class or online.
I was thrilled to receive this opportunity from Pass Teachers. The actual teacher in me was recognised by my ability to instruct at a professional level. It's much better that it's online! Could you picture imparting your expertise to young people all across the world, changing their lives, and educating and assisting them? Knowing that you play a significant role in the lives of so many kids is just remarkable!
What are the benefits of teaching at Pass Teachers?
Benefits, there are a lot. They offered me various workshops to help me improve my teaching abilities. They give you all the tools and instructions you need to complete the course. Since we teachers solely need to view the materials, get the class ready, and use the appropriate teaching techniques for each student in the class, this is quite beneficial.
The working hours are completely flexible, and you get to choose when you work. I get to choose to work at night or during the day. I even get to substitute classes depending on the availability of my schedule. What’s great is that they ask you before substituting the class to you, considering your opinion too, which is great.
Not to forget how understanding, professional and helpful the staff is. They encourage the teachers to do their best. They ensure to let their teachers know they are heard and valued.
What in your opinion make(s) a good online teacher?
Being creative is the most important. Let's not forget that these kids are in front of a screen. Talking nonstop won't help them learn anything. Teachers who are innovative and think outside the box are well-suited to assist pupils achieve in today's digitally transformed environment. To keep the kids from getting bored, they must be very proficient with the tools of their virtual classroom and the internet.
For instance, my students are frequently requested to draw, colour, or write on the screen to boost their virtual interaction. They are asked to speak up and express their ideas, sentiments, and opinions. In this way, students feel more involved, valued, and can engage their memorisation skills more.
It is crucial to communicate and establish trust. In order to make students feel at ease during classes, a good online teacher should be affable and have effective communication skills to clear up any misunderstandings and to speak with each student individually. Teachers and students should get along well so that they are willing to talk to one other about their issues. Starting on the first day, it is important to maintain a welcoming environment and a helpful learning system.
We should provide constant feedback and support for the children to know about their performance. Regular evaluation, quizzes and tests surely help the students improve their learning.
A great passion for teaching is important. Students in a course that is totally internet-delivered will be motivated to work hard by the instructor's enthusiasm in each online lesson and interaction. By developing innovative strategies to keep students interested in online live sessions, a successful online instructor demonstrates interest and energy. It is important for teachers to have a love for what they do in order to go above and beyond to meet the needs of each and every student.
Additionally, your ability to manage your time effectively in class is paramount given that we only have about 55 minutes.
And then no one can stop you from being the best online teacher!
What has been your experience so far at Pass Teachers?
So far, my experience has been marvelous. It's been 5 months since I've started teaching at Pass Teachers. It made great changes in my life. I always get excited when I see my students. Talking and sharing about our routines always makes me happy. Also, it's wonderful to be acknowledged, comprehended, and respected by the personnel.
How do you motivate and engage an online class?
I apply the knowledge and skills I've gained through my studies and prior experience at the NGO. I apply the qualities needed to be a good online teacher to always keep the class motivated and engaged. For instance, as I've previously mentioned, we do a lot of quizzes. Now when I say, "question pour un champion ou une championne" the kids know what to expect and you see how they are all excited and ready to give their answer by raising their hands up. This small & simple activity has created an entertaining element for the kids and it helps remember the new vocabulary and sentence patterns.
We also conduct evaluation and tests to see their progress with the use of encouraging words. Furthermore, they appreciate it when you know them personally, know their names, and know what they like. They pay attention when you make references to those in the class. As a result, they are always eager to learn more.
